• I’m the one that made the comment how much it cost for the president to ride around the Daytona 500. (Someone) commented that he deserved a vacation. I think he gets plenty of vacations. And, something else too; the president, that’s a 24/7 job. He needs to stick on it because he’s got a crisis on his hands.
• That new road that Harrison County’s building, I don’t even know why we need it. My property don’t even get close to there; I’m not worried about that … but our Harrison County commissioners should not have a say about somebody’s property in this day and age. …
• I’m calling in about the current situation in Harrison County. When are the people in Harrison County going to wake up and quit voting all these Republicans in? We’ve got three county commissioners that are all Republicans. They voted in that stupid boat ramp down at Mauckport …. Now they … just went on and passed (an east-west connector road in southern Harrison County). …
• Whatever happened to that I-64 interchange west of Corydon that was supposed to have been done back when Buck Mathes and (James) Goldman and Jim Klinstiver were commissioners? It would make better sense putting an interchange into 64 because that 135 and I-64 is sometimes a nightmare. Too many wrecks on that road.
Editor’s note: A $5 million commitment for that project was rescinded in November 2013 by the Harrison County Board of Commissioners after the county council said it would not support funding for the Lanesville connector road project if the $5 million was still committed to the second I-64 interchange project.
• I just drove by what they call the Lanesville corridor, the new road, that was built by Harrison County. What has that road brought to Harrison County? Can anybody explain that … ? All I can say is to the people voting, remember who you vote for and maybe you won’t be going to meetings over a road going from 135 to 111 or a freeway from Lanesville to Georgetown. Just pay attention on election.
• How many roads in Harrison County are they going to build new before they maintain the roads they already have? … If you can’t maintain what you have, what makes you think you’re going to maintain something new? It’s all good to grow and it’s all good to build roads, but you should take care of what you have and then prove to the people that you can take care of growth. If not, you probably ought to get out of office, get out of whatever job you’re doing that you’re helping build these roads. Let somebody get in there that can build.
• I just called to say thanks to Judy O’Bannon for her piece in the paper on Lady Justice. Everybody needs to read it and consider the value of their vote.
• I just wanted to make a comment about Harrison-Crawford forest burning off property. After I saw all the smoke, the next day I went up and checked out where they had burned just a little bit north of Leavenworth. I found three painted box turtles that they had burned when they burned the forest off. Also one rabbit. You know it’s funny, that the painted box turtle is on the protected species list …
• I’m responding to the call about the horrible, awful conditions regarding the animal shelter in Kentucky. Please, everyone; please call ASPCA or PETA or the Humane Society and report the place where it’s at, and let’s get these animals some help. Somebody else called and wants to know where in the Bible does it turn away refugees regarding all the immigrants coming in illegally. President Trump has made it very clear if they’re legal, let them on in. If not, then keep them out. He is trying to look after the American people. And the other half of the question was where did it say Jesus fed the multitudes after giving them a drug test? Well, when Jesus walked on Earth, there was no drug problem. I think if they’ve got the money for drugs, then surely they can buy food. I also wish to tell Mr. Alex Sokolow another way to help eliminate our national debt (is) get the freeloaders up off of their rear ends and cut the many welfare checks that so many people are taking advantage of. Some people really need it, and some don’t. And about the coronavirus, whereas sin abounds more and more, so does hardship for our land. President Trump has nothing to do with it. God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of sin and sodomy. …
• When is somebody going to do something about the junkyard developing on the east side of (S.R.) 135 just north of Crossroads? The health department ought to take a look at that.
• To the person that is wondering about the coronavirus, President Trump is doing a whole lot to try and stop it. Get on internet and read about what all he’s doing. He’s doing a whole lot to try to help get this thing under control so it won’t bring death to the American people. And then also, Revelations chapter 6, verse 8 tells about four horses, what they’re going to do at the end of time. … I encourage everybody to read that and then they will understand the coronavirus so much better …
• I just wanted to let everybody know that the first week of January Rebecca (Bec) Riley, the Corydon Capitol State Historic Site site manager, retired. She had been down there 33-1/2 years, and her last day of work was, I believe, Jan. 5, and I just wanted to say congratulations; we love you and are proud of you. Thirty-three and a half years is a long time. It was a long, long time of hard work, dedication, blood, sweat and tears, and we love you; we’re proud of you. You accomplished a lot. There will never be another one like you down there. And when you think of Corydon Capitol, think of Bec. We love you. We’re proud of you. Good luck with everything.
• In this election, you will be voting for saving national parks, letting kids out of cages, clean air and clean water. You’re voting for scientists to be allowed to speak about climate change. You’re voting to allow gays and lesbians to be treated with dignity, for non-Christians to be able to adopt. You’re voting so that there will be Social Security and Medicare when you retire, for veterans to get the care they deserve, for rural hospitals. You’re voting so that someone else can have insurance, and you’re voting to have a president who doesn’t embarrass this country …
• My mother and I are avid readers of Live Wire. However, in recent weeks we have been dismayed more and more because of the national politics in the paper. It is much more enjoyable if we could just not have national politics in the Live Wire.
• Couple of weeks ago, I asked for any Trump supporters to tell what they thought was the reason Trump won’t release his tax returns from prior to 2016 to the present. So far, all there’s been is silence.
• I’m calling to say I don’t know how anyone can support a party that supports abortion. … Think about it.
• I’m calling about the installation of Mainstream cable in Harrison County. I have just been informed that the Harrison County (Community) Foundation and Harrison County gave $5 million to Mainstream to (provide) fast-access internet to all residents. Well, it has come to my attention this past week that Mainstream is now moving to Crawford County and they’re requesting $3.6 million from Crawford County. I wish that our Foundation and our commissioners would ask for Mainstream to return the $5 million to the county because they did not fulfill their contract to get all residents the fast-access internet …
Editor’s note: Mainstream was hired to bring high-speed internet access to 85% of Harrison County, and work started in the summer of 2016. That contract was completed in September 2018. Some areas where Mainstream is not available is due to property owners unwilling to grant an easement across their property.
• I’m watching the 12 o’clock news on the TV, and it’s down to two different candidates for the Democratic race for president, Biden and Sanders. Well, Biden worked underneath Obama and Obama legalized same-sex marriages. I don’t believe in that at all …
• Just saw where Purdue University and Indiana University has canceled their international study programs for spring break. But, South Harrison school board doesn’t have enough common sense to cancel the high school students’ trip to Europe? Uh, hello?
• I’ve heard many negative remarks about the TV show called “The View,” so I turned on my TV to watch some of it. I couldn’t stand to watch over three minutes. It’s horrible and should not be allowed to use precious air time by those four gossipy, prejudiced women that airs it. It sickens me. I say get them off there. What a waste of money and air time.
• I just want to say I love Donald Trump …
• I think we need to stop measuring the economy by how well rich people are doing.
• It’s Monday, March 9. Donald Trump is claiming that the coronavirus is contained. He’s telling older people it’s OK to go out and live as usual. This is threatening people’s lives. Anybody over 60 needs to talk to their doctor and not listen to this man and believe anything he says right now about this coronavirus. …
• I wish Corydon would get a good fish place in town like Moby Dick or Captain D’s …
• I see where the state’s bush-hogging up and down (S.R.) 135. They’re just going to make it grow that much faster. … And another thing, I don’t know why they don’t log the right-of-ways. Awful lot of lumber there that’s going to waste. State could use the money and maybe pay off a little debt. Who knows. That’s just an idea for you out there, you so-called commissioners, specialists. There you go; there’s an idea to put on your book.
