Roy W. McClanahan
Roy W. (Speedy) McClanahan, age 77, Palmyra, Ind., passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at Harrison Springs Health Care Center in Corydon, Ind., surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Richmond, Ind., on May 14, 1942, to the late Francis and Cellia Crawford McClanahan.
He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the VFW Post No. 6636 in Salem, Ind. Roy served as a former Town of Palmyra board president, as a special deputy to the Harrison County Police Department and as Palmyra’s Town Marshal. He was also a retired truck driver, a job that took him to all 50 states. Roy had a great love for his family, friends and his dog, Rocky. His hobbies were old cars, studying politics, watching IU basketball, old western movies as well as playing cards, and spending time with his life-long friends, including Donnie Baylor, Vivian and Norris Rudolph, Frank Melton and many more.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, John Allen McClanahan, and sister Doris Amy.
Survivors include his son, Jackie McClanahan (Vicky Adams); his daughter, Cindy Seaman (Bob); Jenny L. McClanahan; his grandchildren, Shelby Lynn, Hannah and Maxx; his brother, Thomas Irvin McClanahan; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Friday, March 6, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, March 7, after 9 a.m. at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra.
Funeral: Saturday, March 7, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in Central Barren Cemetery.
