Number of local wrestlers advance to regional

A number of local wrestlers advanced to the regional round of the state tournament Saturday by finishing in the top four at the Jeffersonville sectional.
Crawford County’s Donnie Feeler placed second in the 106-pound class to advance.
Corydon Central had a number of advancing wrestlers, as well. They were Bryson Rowley, who was second for Corydon Central at 113 pounds, Zane Schreck, who was third at 106 pounds, Hunter Pitts finished fourth at 120 pounds, Joseph Gohl placed fourth at 170 pounds, Isaac Gerdon was fourth at 195 pounds and Seth Johnson was fourth at 285 pounds.
North Harrison had just one wrestler advance, Noah Phelps in the 182-pound division. He placed fourth for the Cougars.
Feeler lost in the championship match to Coy Hammack of Tell City. Feeler received a bye in the first round and then won by forfeit in the second round before beating Jeffersonville’s Collin Cain.
Phelps lost to Borden’s Jacob Knollenberg in the third-place match. He won his first-round match by forfeit and then defeated Silver Creek’s Mike Lowery in the second round. Phelps lost to Tell City’s Alec Stahly in the semi-finals before rebounding to beat Corydon Central’s Dalton Jenkins by major decision in the consolation round.
For Corydon Central, Rowley defeated Borden’s Carlos Huerta in the semi-final match before losing to Tell City’s Brayden Lain in the championship match. He had a bye in the first round and beat Salem’s Izabelle Foster in the quarterfinals.
Schreck won his third-place match over Jeffersonville’s Cain. He won the consolation match over Eastern’s Camden Stewart. The match that sent him to the loser’s bracket was a loss to Coy Hammack in the semifinals. Schreck beat Providence’s Henry Loven in the quarterfinal round.
Pitts lost his third-place match to Jeffersonville’s Devin McDaniel. He beat North Harrison’s Landon Jones in the quarterfinals but lost to Charlestown’s Colin Knox in the semifinal round. Pitts won the consolation match by forfeit.
Gohl lost in the third-place match to Nigel Kiser from Tell City. He won the consolation match over New Washington’s Mason Hosteller. The loss in the semi-final round to Charlestown’s Deke Brown sent Gohl to the loser’s bracket. Gohl defeated Salem’s Ty Sweeney in the quarterfinals after receiving a bye in the first round.
Gerdon lost for the second time in one day in the third-place match to Lucas Nale of Eastern. He received a bye in the first round then lost to Nale in the quarterfinals. In the consolation round two, Gerdon defeated North Harrison’s Conner Miller and then in the consolation third round beat Salem’s Nathan Pierce.
Johnson lost his third-place match to Eastern’s Brett Burns. He received a bye in the first round and then beat North Harrison’s Carson Radcliff in the quarterfinals. Johnson ended up in the loser’s bracket when he lost to Jeffersonville’s Matthew Munoz. He rebounded to win his consolation third -round match over Providence’s Mike Vaughn.
Other North Harrison wrestlers who placed but did not advance were Garret Schroeder, fifth at 160 pounds; Landon Jones, fifth at 120 pounds; Ashton McGinnis, fifth at 113 pounds; and Carson Radcliff, sixth at 285 pounds.
Crawford County wrestlers who placed but didn’t advance were Gus Wright, fifth at 152 pounds, and Nick Redden, sixth at 145 pounds.
Corydon Central wrestlers who placed but did not advance were Bryce Gentry, sixth at 152 pounds; Dalton Jenkins, fifth at 182 pounds; and Chase Straub, fifth at 220 pounds.
All advancing wrestlers will compete at regional Saturday at Jeffersonville. The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
