Joe and Kim Clayton had been looking to buy a Big O Tires franchise for quite some time. And, once the franchise in Corydon went up for sale, they both knew it was the right time to pursue their dream.

Joe, having had a career in maintenance management, and Kim, with varying past roles relying heavily on good customer service like a bus driver and working in a hospital, believed they both had the right combination of skills necessary to run the business.

The couple has been the owners of Big O Tires since June 1. Kim said they hope to bring the same values to the shop as the previous owners.

“Big O Tires is the go-to place for a lot of people, and they have come to trust it,” she said. “We want them to be able to keep that same trust in us as the new owners. We might be new faces, but we want to have that same integrity they have always known.”

In order to uphold the same integrity the shop is known for, Joe has been working with other Big O Tires owners to better understand all the systems and processes. He also has sent numerous employees to spend some time working at top franchises to learn what specifics they are incorporating to better their businesses.

“Other shops have been very cooperative and helpful,” Joe said. “I worked in several stores before I came here, and I am trying to bring a lot of it back here. I want my staff to learn it firsthand as well so we can better serve our customers.”

With the staff working toward bettering their operational processes, the Claytons hope to give the shop a small makeover in the coming year as well, starting with the equipment.

“My goal for this year is to upgrade some of the equipment, give the showroom a face lift and get some more comfortable furniture,” Joe said. “We basically want to give the whole store a face lift to keep things up to date and great for our customers. I want the shop’s look to match the exceptional service our staff provides.”
