Stewart powers Rebels past Mitchell
Lucas Stewart had a double-double with 33 points and 12 rebounds and Austin Tyree added another 15 points as the South Central Rebels rallied past visiting Mitchell for a 68-64 win Saturday night.
The Rebels improved to 4-6 headed into Friday night’s annual tussle with Southern Athletic Conference and county rival Lanesville in Elizabeth. The Eagles are 6-5 after suffering a 74-44 loss at home to Perry Central on Saturday. Lanesville leads the conference race at 2-0, while New Washington and South Central are each 1-0.
Against Mitchell, Stewart hit 11 of 21 shots, including three of eight from three-point range. Tyree also had a trio of three-pointers as the Rebels connected on seven of 16 shots from long range.
South Central rallied after trailing at the end of each quarter but emerged with the win by outscoring the visitors 23-13 in the decisive fourth.
