Corydon wrestlers drop two at Madison

Clipp Memorial set for Saturday

The Corydon Central wrestling team had two matches Jan. 3 at the Cub Classic in Madison.

The Panthers lost to Madison 59-21 and to Jeffersonville 54-30.

Against Jeffersonville, Corydon Central winners were Joseph Gohl over Kendrick Southerlen by fall in the 182-pound class; Seth Johnson over Colin Corbin by fall in the 106-pound division; Zane Schreck over Collin Cain by fall at 113 pounds; Bryson Rowley over Robert Cline by fall at 120 pounds; and Hunter Pitts at 126 via forfeit.

Panthers grapplers who won over Madison were Chase Straub, via forfeit at 285 pounds; Schreck over Kelsey Bilz by fall at 113 pounds; Bryson Rowley over Bryce Turner by fall at 120 pounds; and, in the 182-pound weight class, Gohl over Van Skinner by a 13-10 decision.

Corydon Central will host the Richard Clipp Memorial Old Capital Classic Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.

Participating teams will include Bedford North Lawrence, Brebeuf Jesuit, Evansville Central, Floyd Central, Gibson Southern, Henry Clay (Kentucky), Milan, Meade County (Kentucky) and Southport.

Weigh-in will take place at 8:30 a.m. with matches to follow at 9:45 in the main Corydon Central High School gym. Four mats will be used. There will be continual wrestling in rounds one through four.

Prior to the final round, there will be a 30-minute break to determine who will wrestle for what position.

Individual and runner-up winners will be crowned in each weight class, and there will also be a trophy for the team winner and the outstanding wrestler.
