Richard D. Tuchscherer, 91, Augusta, Ga., died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2019, in Thomson, Ga.

He was born on Aug. 24, 1928, in Jeffersonville.

He entered the U.S. Navy in 1943, at age 15, and served during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. After a distinguished naval career, he retired in 1972 as a lieutenant commander. He was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church near Corydon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; a brother, Thomas; his sister, Dorothy Frank; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Tuchscherer.

Survivors include four children, Rick Tuchscherer (Joy) of Harlem, Ga., Mitch Tuchscherer of Charlotte, N.C., and Mark Tuchscherer (Debbie) and Lisa Agnew (Bill), both of Louisville; three siblings, Michael Tuchscherer (Elaine) of Corydon and Carol Jean Strouth and Anna Katherine Horne, both of Louisville; three stepsons, Walter Lawton of Dumfries, Va., Evert Lawton of Salt Lake City and John Lawton of Kaleva, Mich.; more than 30 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Visitation: Saturday, Dec. 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.

Funeral: Saturday, Dec. 28, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with burial in St. Peter’s Church Cemetery near Corydon with full military honors.
