Library adult programs set for January

The Frederick Porter Griffin Center for Local History and Genealogy will present a new program, “Let’s Track Them Down,” on Monday, Jan. 13, at 6 p.m. at the Palmyra branch of the Harrison County Public Library. Lynne Keasling will discuss tips for researching women in historical records.

Other programs by genealogy in January will include “Matters of Grave Importance,” presented by Mary Eve of the Harrison County Cemetery Restoration Team at the Genealogy Library in downtown Corydon on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 10 a.m.

The Classic Book Club will meet Thursday, Jan. 2, at 7 p.m. to discuss “Pickwick Papers” by Charles Dickens.

On Monday, Jan. 13, the Christian Fiction Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Lanesville branch. Members are reading a book of their choice that they will discuss that evening.

The Shakespeare Book Club will meet Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 4:45 p.m. at the main library in Corydon to discuss “Measure for Measure.” “Merry Wives of Windsor” will be the play for February.

On Tuesday, Jan. 21, the Mystery Book Club will meet at 2:30 p.m. at the Lanesville branch. “Whiskers in the Dark” by Rita Mae Brown will be discussed.

Quills and Quibble writing group will meet Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 6 p.m. at the main library.

Friends of the Library will have their regular meeting Monday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m. at the main library. Anyone interested is welcome to come.

The Friends Book Box will be open two Saturdays, Jan. 11 and 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Other events and classes in January will include: Sit and Stitch at the Lanesville branch each Thursday at 2 p.m.; Helping Hands at the Palmyra branch each Saturday at 2 p.m.; Craft Circle at the Palmyra branch each Monday, except Jan. 20, at 11 a.m.; Just Craftin’ Around at the main library each Monday, except Jan. 20, at noon; Sew Crafty at the Elizabeth branch each Monday, except Jan. 20, at 6:30 p.m.; Stitches in Time at the main library each Tuesday at 12:30 p.m.; Creative Cards at the Palmyra branch on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 11 a.m., and at the Lanesville branch on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 6 p.m.; Anything Goes Craft Day at the Lanesville branch on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 2 p.m.; Cooking with Class (making game d\ay grub) at the Lanesville branch on Monday, Jan. 21, at 6 p.m.; The Art of Paper Quilling at the Lanesville branch on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 6 p.m.; and Personal Journaling at the Lanesville branch on Thursday, Jan. 23, at 6:30 p.m.

The Harrison County Public Library and all of its branches will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 1, for New Year’s Day, and Monday, Jan. 20, for Martin Luther King Day.
