Holiday Hoops Tournaments take center stage
Nothing says the holiday season like basketball, and there’s plenty of it on tap as a number of local teams will spend time on the hardwood at various tournaments.
On the boys’ side of things, the Lanesville Eagles will travel to compete in the Springs Valley Holiday Tournament.
The Eagles open tournament play Friday, Dec. 27, at 10 a.m. against Orleans. The winner of that game will play the winner of the Paoli-Shoals game that night at 7. The loser of the Orleans-Lanesville game will play the loser of the Paoli-Shoals game at 4 p.m.
On Saturday, depending on how Friday’s games go, Lanesville could play at 2, 3:30, 5 or 7:30 p.m.
South Central will compete in the Forest Park Holiday Tournament on Dec. 27 and 28.
The Rebels will begin play Dec. 27 at 10 a.m. against Northeast Dubois. The winner will play the winner of the East Central vs. Mount Vernon (Posey) game that evening at 6. The losers of those two games will also play at 6 p.m. in another gym.
On Saturday, Dec. 28, games will be determined by how teams do in Friday’s games. Possible start times will be 3, 4:45, 6:30 and 8:15 p.m.
The North Harrison and Corydon Central boys’ teams will play in the Perry-Spencer Holiday Tournament on Dec. 27 and 28.
The Cougars will open play on Dec. 27 against Boonville. The winner of that game will play the winner of the Owensboro (Ky.) Apollo vs. South Spencer contest at 8:15 p.m.
The losers of those two games will play at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 27.
The Panthers will also play on Dec. 27, facing Crawford County at 11 a.m. The winner of that game will play the winner of the Perry Central vs. Tell City game at 8:15 p.m.
The losers of those games will play on Dec. 27 at 6:30 p.m.
On Saturday, Dec. 28, there will be games played at 3, 4:15, 6:30 and 8:15 p.m. Opponents will be determined by how the teams do in Friday’s games.
Three of the four girls’ basketball teams will be in action during the holiday break, as well.
South Central’s girls will play in the Brown County Tournament on Friday, Jan. 3.
The Lady Rebels will open tournament play at 10 a.m. against host Brown County. The second game is scheduled to tip off at 11:30 a.m. and will feature Bloomington South taking on Beech Grove.
The losers of the first-round games will take on one another in the consolation game at 6 with the two winners playing at 7:30.
The Corydon Central Lady Panthers will be one of eight teams competing in the Edinburgh Holiday Tournament on Jan. 3 and 4.
Corydon Central will open play on Friday, Jan. 3, at 3:15 p.m. against Jac-Cen-Del. The loser of that game will play the loser of the Southwestern (Shelbyville) vs. Hagerstown game at 7:45. The winners of those two games will play one another at 7:45 in the main gym.
How the Lady Panthers do in their games Friday will determine when they play on Saturday, Jan. 4. Corydon Central could play at either 10 a.m., noon or 2 or 4 p.m.
North Harrison’s girls will play in a one-day “Christmas Clash” at Indian Creek on Saturday, Jan. 4.
The tournament will start with Bloomington North taking on Indian Creek at 10:30 a.m. with the Lady Cats’ game against Monroe Central to follow at noon.
During the evening session, the loser of the morning games will play one another at 5 p.m. with the two winners taking on one another at 6:30.
