Barbara J. Mathes
Barbara J. Mathes, 80, Corydon, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019, at Kindred Hospital in Louisville.
Born March 27, 1939, in Harrison County, she was the daughter of the late John and Inez Helfrich Askren.
She worked in the Harrison County Court House for a span of 40 years and was deputy recorder, deputy auditor and deputy clerk of Harrison County, all with her husband as he held these offices and she herself was Harrison County Clerk of Circuit Court.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, David and John Askren.
Survivors include her husband, Jesse L. Mathes; two sons, Doug Mathes and Chuck Mathes (Debby), and daughter, Debra Mathes, all of Corydon; a sister, Harriet Binkley of New Salisbury; seven grandchildren, Charles Mathes (Kendra), Maggie Owens (Bobby), Logan Mathes (Jessie), Michael Mathes (Reba), Elliot Mathes, Andrea Orme (Scotty) and J Mathes; and eight great-grandchildren, Kairi, Charlie, Aurora, Leona and Abram Mathes, Harper and Henry Owens and Bailey Orme.
Visitation: Friday, Nov. 22, from 1 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 23, after 9 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Saturday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.
