George Rodgers Sloan, 85, Corydon, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019, at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany.

Born Feb. 12, 1934, in New Albany, he was the son of the late Phyllis Rodgers Sloan and George Spaulding Sloan.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in New Albany and a former member of both the Corydon and New Albany Rotary Clubs and the Corydon Jaycees. While a Jaycee member, he served as the chairman of the Santa House Project.

As a young man, he gained many of his journeyman skills while working alongside his grandfather at Conner Manufacturing Co. of Louisville. Then, partnering alongside his father, he co-owned the Corydon Sky Aire Drive-In theatre in the 1950s and 1960s. He was also the owner of Culligan Water Conditioning in Corydon for nearly 40 years, where he focused on providing quality service for his customers. During retirement years, he enjoyed doing various carpentry projects around the home and for his daughter’s classroom.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Gayle Miller Sloan.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Wallace (Tom) of Corydon; a sister, Alice Huffaker of Marietta, Ga.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roger and Nadine Bell of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.

His family is thankful for the dedicated care provided by Deborah Herthel over the past few years and the superb medical care given to him by the staff of Hosparus of Southern Indiana.

Visitation: Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, Oct. 2, after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.

Funeral: Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in the Edwardsville Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial gifts to Hosparus of Southern Indiana.
