James A. Morgan
James Arthur (Art) Morgan, 79, Galveston, died at 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, at Waterford Place Health Campus in Kokomo.
Born Feb. 4, 1940, in Elizabeth in Harrison County, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Levida Thelma Cooper Morgan. He married Mary A. Bir on Feb. 23, 1960, in Lanesville. Mary preceded him in death on May 17, 2014.
Art was a machine operator for Chrysler for 35 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Kokomo, the Galveston Park Board, Galveston Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Galveston Lions Club. He was active in the Boy Scouts with St. Joan of Arc Church and a member of the blacksmith shop in Rochester. Art enjoyed playing golf, gardening, upholstery and blacksmithing.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Emil, Jasper (Jack), Richard, Frederick and Glenn Morgan.
Survivors include four children, James Arthur Morgan Jr. (Kristy), Nelson Keith Morgan, Kevin Lee Morgan and Sandra Kathleen Mettler (Vernon Eugene); four grandchildren, Chloe and Chad Mettler, Nick Morgan and Stefanie Kottkamp (Justin); a step-grandson, Matt Hollingsworth; a great-granddaughter, Amilya Jane Kottkamp; a step-great-granddaughter, Madison Hollingsworth; and three siblings, Paul Morgan of Lanesville, Warren Morgan of Hanover and Mary Martha Morgan Wiseman of Corydon.
Visitation: Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston.
Mass of Christian burial: Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Kokomo.
Officiant: The Rev. Fr. Arbuckle.
