James K. Layer, 78, Corydon, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, at his home.
Born Nov. 28, 1940, in New Albany, he was the son of the late Thomas and Lucille Stewart Layer.
He was a retired millwright at the former Ziniz Inc. in Louisville and a member of Elizabeth High School Class of 1958 and Unity Chapel United Methodist Church near Ramsey.
Survivors include his wife, the former Evon Secrest; a son, John Layer (Katrina) of Evansville; a daughter, Alisa Blessett (Stacy D.) of New Salisbury; two brothers, Ralph Layer (Dawn) and Donald Layer (Bonnie), both of Elizabeth; two sisters, Janice Eaton of Virginia Beach, Va., and Debbie Layer of Jeffersonville; three grandchildren, Caitlin Nikolai (Peter) of Morganfield, Ky., Andrew Layer (Kaleen) of Newburgh and Alison Ernspiker (Brad) of New Albany; and a great-grandchild, Ariel Nikolai of Morganfield, Ky.
Visitation: Friday, Aug. 23, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 24, after 9 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Saturday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery west of Corydon.
Pallbearers: Peter Nikolai, Andrew Layer, Brad Ernspiker, Doug Luther, Fred McKim and Sam Mills.
