Alex M. Barnard

Alex Michael Barnard, 66, of Iron Station, N.C., died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019.
Born Nov. 24, 1952, in Salem, he was the son of the late Claude Barnard and Irma Deatrick Barnard.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Roger and Greg Barnard, and an infant son.
Alex married Peggy Hannel on April 10, 1982, in Palmyra, Ind., before moving to Denver, N.C., in 1984. Alex retired from Hall Contracting Corp. in Charlotte, N.C., after 37 years as shop superintendent, heavy machine operator/mechanic and truck driver. He was a member of Denver United Methodist Church and Upper Room Sunday School class. Alex always offered a helping hand for anyone in need and never met a stranger he couldn’t have a conversation with. He was a supporter of American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life as well as Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln County.
Alex is survived by his wife of 37 years, the former Peggy Hannel; a daughter, Heather Barnard Farson (Jonathan) of Sylva, N.C.; four sisters, Claudia Barnard Coffey (Gary), Nancy Baker, Sandra Bowling and Debbie Barnard, all of Indiana; a brother, Jeff Barnard (Connie) of Indiana; a sister-in-law, Patricia Barnard of Indiana; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Saturday, Aug. 24, from 1 to 2:45 p.m. at Denver (N.C.) United Methodist Church.
Celebration of Life service: Saturday, Aug. 24, at 3 p.m. at the church.
Officiants: The Revs. Steve Autrey and Tim Killian.
Arrangements: Warlick Funeral Home in Lincolnton, N.C.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Cancer Society of East Lincoln, N.C., Habitat for Humanity or the charity of one’s choice.
