Robert (Bob) Franklin Sommerville, 81, Talleyville, formerly of Palmyra and Louisville, died Friday, May 31, 2019, after a long illness.
Born Oct. 17, 1937, in Central Barren, he was the son of the late Kirk Edward and Edith Kost Sommerville.
He graduated as valedictorian from both Valley High School in 1955 and the Speed School of Engineering, University of Louisville in 1960 and worked for Monsanto Chemical Co. in Texas City, Texas, until 1961, when he moved to Wilmington, Del., to work for Sun Oil Co. in Philadelphia, Pa., and retired in 1991.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Patricia (Patsy) Ann Peak, in 1973; a son, Steven Ray Sommerville, in 1977; two brothers, George William Sommerville and Richard Fogle Sommerville; a sister, Thelma Adams; and his stepfather, Haggai Murphy.
Survivors include three children, Douglas Robert Sommerville (Sarah) of Forest Hill, Md., James Edward Sommerville (Laura) of Wilmington, Del., and Rebecca Ann O’Donnell (Ted) of Rockville, Md.; two brothers, Herman Alexander Sommerville (Cheryl) of New Albany and Earl Allen Sommerville (Verdi) of Marietta, Ga.; and two granddaughters, Colleen Patricia and Nicole Claire O’Donnell.
Visitation: Thursday, June 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home in Wilmington, Del.
Memorial service: Thursday, June 6, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home followed by a graveside service at Silverbrook Cemetery in Wilmington, Del.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Diabetes Association or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
