Irene L. Blank
Irene L. Blank, 92, Corydon, died Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at Harrison Springs Rehabilitation Center in Corydon.
Born March 21, 1927, in Harrison County, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Edith Gleitz Kost.
She was a homemaker, a farmer, a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Women’s Circle, the worship committee and pianist for Sunday school. In years past, she and her mother walked to the church and cleaned the church weekly for 25 cents a week. She played the trumpet in her younger years for Lanesville High School and for St. Peter’s Church. She also sang in the old Southern Indiana Chorus and church choir. She was a former 4-H leader for Busy Beavers 4-H Club, was the information coordinator for Harrison County Farm Bureau and a member of the New Middletown Homemakers. She and her husband traveled extensively worldwide after their retirement.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl H. Blank; two brothers, Kenneth and Wayne Kost; and two sisters, Martha Walther and Dorothy Wesselhoft.
Survivors include four sons, Richard Blank (Nancy) of Richmond, James Blank (Martha) of Corydon, Lester Blank (Mary) of Shelbyville, Ky., and Joseph A. Blank (Kathy) of McCordsville; a daughter, Deborah Willis (Gary) of Westerville, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Sunday, June 2, from 1 to 7 p.m. and Monday, June 3, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Monday, June 3, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Corydon, IN. Pastor Evangeline Anderson Rajkumar will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
