Work on land-based casino progresses

Not only did Horseshoe Southern Indiana officials give an update of its $85 million project that will change its casino at Bridgeport from a dockside boat to a land-based structure, they announced the rebranding of the site.
The new 100,000-square-foot casino will open as Caesars Southern Indiana, part of the internationally-known Caesars gaming and entertainment brand.
‘When guests visit our casino, it will be an entirely new experience,’ Brad Seigel, Horseshoe Southern Indiana senior vice president and general manager, said. ‘Enhancements to the guest experience will include many new sights and sounds, but what will be familiar to them is our friendly team members, always ready to make their visit memorable.’
Ground was broken for the new gaming site, being constructed between the casino parking garage and the existing pavilion, last June with an anticipated completion date of this December.
Once completed, there will be a slight temporary closing of the casino to allow the moving of some games from the Glory of Rome riverboat to the new facility.
The Glory of Rome, which sits in the Ohio River, opened in October 1998 as Caesars. Under Indiana gaming laws then, casinos had to be located on water and were required to cruise. Later, the cruising requirement was dismissed. Then, after lawmakers decided casinos could be land based, Horseshoe was given the OK by the Harrison County Advisory Plan Commission to amend its planned unit development in order to move its gaming facility from its dockside boat to a land-based structure.
The $85 million project will combine guests’ favorite slot machines, table games and poker in one place, which will include a non-smoking area, along with dining opportunities, entertainment and retail space.
Volt Lounge will feature craft cocktails and live entertainment on weekends. In the center of the gaming floor will be Juno Bar, which will offer several large, flat-screen TVs. A VIP Lounge will feature High Limits gaming areas, a private parlor and an outdoor balcony. And, on-site sports betting can be done at Sportsbook.
Five new restaurants, from ‘fast casual’ to more upscale dining experiences, will also be part of the new facility.
‘In Roman times, Caesar lived the best life,’ Renee Nadeau, Horseshoe Southern Indiana’s vice president of marketing, said. ‘When we open as Caesars Southern Indiana, all of our guests can Live Like a Caesar in their own way, in gaming, dining and entertainment.’
Renovations also are underway to existing meeting and convention spaces.
