Former HC police officer charged
A former Harrison County Sheriff’s Dept. officer was charged last week with two felony counts of voyeurism and one felony count of child exploitation.
Kerry W. Freeberg, 56, of New Albany was charged in Floyd County, where the alleged crime occurred.
A former detective/investigator with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Dept. and a school resource officer for the South Harrison Community School Corp., Freeberg was arrested last Wednesday along S.R. 111 following a situation that included the SWAT team. Investigators in the case say Freeberg used a hidden camera in his bathroom to capture images of a girl getting in and out of the shower.
According to court documents, a woman told police she discovered two thumb drives that contained videos of a nude 12-year-old girl as well as videos of friends of the girl.
After leaving the sheriff’s department, Freeberg was hired by the Harrison County Highway Dept. to work the recently revitalized brush crew, but he didn’t stay long. He also was a reserve officer for a few months last year with the Palmyra Police Dept.
Freeberg, who attended New Albany High School, served three years as an assistant volleyball coach at South Central Junior-Senior High School before taking over head coaching duties with a former assistant coach in October 2016 following the death of long-time coach Patty Shaffer.
During a court appearance Monday afternoon, bond for Freeberg was set at $100,000 full cash. Yesterday (Tuesday), a no-contact order was issued.
