Carol E. Shaffer
Carol Ellen Manning Shaffer, 78, Elizabeth, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019, at her home.
Born April 15, 1940, in Cold Springs, Ky., she was the daughter of the late John William and Geneva Bowman Manning.
She was a retired dairy farmer, 4-H leader, homemaker and babysitter for numerous children in the community and attended Bethesda United Methodist Church and, later, Smith Campground United Methodist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Rosemary Lively Manning, who raised her since she was 5, and a daughter, Christine Carol Shaffer.
Survivors include her husband, Virgil Ray Shaffer; three children, Jeffery Ray Shaffer (Sherry), Cynthia Carol Bratcher (Mike) and Beth Ann Ferree (Bruce); six grandchildren, Jeffery Ray Shaffer Jr. (Amy), Sheldon Allen Shaffer (Gina), Kristin Renee Blackman (Craig), Brandon Michael Bratcher (Stephanie) and Scott Allen Ferree, all of Elizabeth, and Amanda Renee Smith (Franklin); a brother, Paul Manning (Linda) of Lanesville; three sisters, Barbara Mullen (David) of New Amsterdam, Lindy Wilder (Michael) of Edwardsvilleand Sue Harrison (Jesse) of Lincolnton, Ga.; 11 great-grandchildren, Alex, Brandt, Ty, Jax, Lillian, Rhett, Henry, Porter, Craig, Abby and Luke; and an uncle who was like a brother, Hubert Manning Jr. of Lexington, Ky.
Visitation: Saturday, Feb. 2, from noon to 8 p.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Sunday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with interment in Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetery.
