Geraldine E. Houser


Geraldine (Deanie) Elizabeth Houser, 93, Elizabeth, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany.
Born Sept. 18, 1925, in Bloomington, Ill., she was the daughter of the late William Oscar and Mary Sophie Lamkin Mattingly.
She was a production worker for 40 years for Phillip Morris in Louisville, a lifetime member of VFW 3281 in New Albany and a member of the American Legion Hornickel Post in Elizabeth and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, August Houser; a son, Thomas Houser; a daughter, Sharon Marsh; a granddaughter, Shawnetta Cassidy; a great-granddaughter, Liberty Martin; seven brothers; and five sisters.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Houser Smith (Steven) of Corydon; a daughter-in-law, Evelyn Houser of Floyds Knobs; nine granddaughters; 16 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Tuesday, Jan. 15, from 1 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, Jan. 16, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.
Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
Celebrant: Father Robert St. Martin.
Pallbearers: David Blocker, Jake Mattingly, Cody and Kyle Ferree, Duane and Steven Cassidy, Drew Cassady and Shashi Shivananjaiah.
Honorary pallbearers: Pat Houglin, Frank Mattingly, David Allen, Dennis Martin, Adam Ferree, Dustin Campbell and Jesse Wilson.
