Harlan F. Uhl

Harlan F. Uhl, 75, Palmyra, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018, after a battle with blood cancer.
Born April 19, 1943, he was the son of the late Catherine and Severus Bid Uhl.
He graduated from Morgan Township High School in 1961 and earned degrees from the University of Evansville, Indiana University and Spalding University. His career as an educator and administrator began at St. Augustine in Jeffersonville and included Holy Rosary, Holy Redeemer and Memorial High School in Evansville, Providence High School, Sacred Heart, St. Paul’s and Holy Family. The last 20 years were spent in the New Albany-Floyd County schools of Lafayette/St. Mary’s, Pine View and Greenville Elementary, from which he retired. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Bradford.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Uhl; a sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Wayne Trowbridge; and an infant grandson, Scott Brown.
Survivors include his wife, the former Jonnie Sue Diedrich; three daughters, Kelly Uhl, Kathy Brown (James) and Carrie Gardner (John); nine siblings, Mary Jane Book (Earl), Mildred Rueger (Don), Maurice Uhl, Gerald Uhl (Sandra), Samuel Uhl (Donna), Robert Uhl (Shirley), Anthony Uhl (Karla), William Uhl (Roxanne) and Frederick Uhl (Debbie); five grandchildren, Mary Grace Gehm, Lucy Brown, Ben Brown, William Gardner and Anna Gardner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, from noon to 8 p.m. at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra and Friday, Sept. 28, after 9 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Bradford.
Funeral: Friday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m. at the church with burial in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Bradford.
The family suggests memorial gifts to St. Michael’s Catholic Church, St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities or St. Jude Research Hospital.
