James (Avon) Brown, 91, New Albany, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at his home.
Born Oct. 27, 1926, in Corydon, he was the son of the late James Fergus and Geneva Howard Brown.
He was a 1944 graduate of Corydon High School, attended Cunningham’s Horology School in Corydon and worked as a registered watch maker and jeweler for several years. He was a retired government quality/safety engineer for the Department of the Army at the old Indiana Army Ammunition Plant near Charlestown.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Roger Brown; three brothers, Ronald, Archie and Larry Brown (Lena); and three sisters, Effie White, Lucy Brown and Beverly Exum (Cecil).
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, the former Marion Alexander; a son, Ricky Brown (Pamela) of New Albany; a daughter, Rosalyn Brown of New Albany; four sisters, Shirley Rogester of New Albany, Deborah White (Charles) of San Diego, Maxine Brown of Corydon and Alease Rowe of Indianapolis; four grandchildren; Dale Harris Jr. (Patricia) of Clarksville, Bethany Harris (Jerry Evans) of New Albany, Erick Brown (Amy) of Maryland Heights, Mo., and Erica Brown (fianc’ Mike Naeger) of Florissant, Mo.; and six great-grandchildren, Breanna Michl, Avon and Levi Brown, Gavin and Jacob Evans and Halo Harris.
Arrangements: Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon. Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will take place at a later date with interment in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.
