The Harrison County Republican Central Committee met in caucus Thursday at the Harrison County Government Center in Corydon and elected Jim Heitkemper to fill the vacancy created by the passing of Harrison County Third District Commissioner Jim Klinstiver.
Twenty-seven (out of 35) precinct committeemen were present. Heitkemper, who was elected as the party’s nominee for the position in the May Primary election (defeating Klinstiver), was the only candidate up for the position to complete Klinstiver’s term.
Heitkemper has served previously as county commissioner and at-large council member.
A formal vote was required to take place under Indiana state law even though Heitkemper was unopposed. The vote was unanimous.
The Honorable John T. Evans, judge of the Harrison Circuit Court, was on hand to swear in Heitkemper after the vote.
‘We can never truly replace Jim Klinstiver, but we are confident that Jim Heitkemper will ‘ by virtue of his past experience, strong work ethic and history of community involvement ‘ be able to work hard and ably for the people of Harrison County,’ Scott Fluhr, chair of the Republican Party chair, said. ‘Together, we will carry on Jim Klinstiver’s legacy of honorable public service.’
