Shutout of NW earns Lanesville SAC title
Lanesville hit the road Thursday to wrap up a Southern Athletic Conference softball title with a 14-0 shutout over New Washington.
It was a dominating road to the SAC crown for the Lady Eagles. During the five games, four were won by 10-plus run shutouts. They outscored opponents 50-4 in league contests.
Versus New Washington, Lanesville used a dominant pitching performance out of Katelyn Hurley (two hits, 11 strikeouts) to earn the win.
Offensively, Lanesville loaded up on runs in the second inning. Key was a home run by clean-up hitter Danielle Haire in her second at bat of the 11-run inning. Haire began the inning when she was hit by a pitch.
After Abby Duncan drew a free pass, Haley Adams, Jessica Smith, Lily Romeo, Jill Kaufman, Hannah Nunemaker, Mackenzie Miller and Hurley reached with singles in succession. It climaxed with Haire’s home run. Romeo later added a double in the frame as well.
Nunemaker, out of the lead-off spot, collected three singles. Romeo also had three hits, while Smith and Miller contributed a pair of singles apiece.
