John William Buschemeyer, 80, Corydon, died Monday, May 7, 2018, at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon.
Born Jan. 4, 1938, in Louisville, he was the son of the late John Byrne and Helen Catherine Sherman Buschemeyer.
He attended Christ The King Elementary School (Class of 1952) and Flaget High School (Class of 1956), both in Louisville and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1961 from Bellarmine University, where he was inducted to the Athletic Hall of Fame for tennis. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam era, owner and operator of the old Hurst Lumber in Corydon, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon and served on the board of directors of First Harrison Bank.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Egger and Shannon Rademaker, and his brother-in-law and business partner, Fred Egger.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, the former Catherine Hurst; two daughters, Sarah Helen Koetter (Brian) of Borden and Gretchen Swasey (Brett) of Rocky River, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Mason, Emily and Molly Koetter and Maggie and Sarah Swasey.
Visitation: Friday, May 11, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a rosary service at 7, at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.
Mass of Christian burial: Saturday, May 12, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the Flaget Alumni Association, P.O. Box 36558, Louisville, KY 40233-6558 or the Corydon Central High School Athletic Dept., Girls Tennis, in care of the funeral home.
