NH girls tops at weight-lifting competition
North Harrison student-athletes took part in the annual Southern Indiana Bench and Squat Championships, hosted by South Spencer High School in Rockport.
The North Harrison girls’ came away the team champions in the female division. Within the boys’ freshman/sophomore division, North Harrison placed third while the junior-senior team did not place.
Leading the way for the girls was Emily Ingle, who placed first with a squat of 245-pounds and a bench of 135 pounds.
Coming up with second-place showings for the girls were Sydney Raney (170 squat, 95 bench) and Jordan Kuerzi (170 squat, 120 bench).
Erika Corbin took home a third-place honor with a squat of 180 and bench of 80.
Within the boys’ junior-senior class, North Harrison had one first-place finisher, Blake Schickel. He posted a squat of 325 in the 155-pound weight class followed by a bench of 235.
Other notable finishers within the junior-senior division were 155-pound second-place finisher Logan Senn (340 squat, 185 bench), 220-pound third-place finisher Jaylen Peake (425 squat, 225 bench) and 150-pound fifth-place finisher Garrett Gunter (355 squat, 205 bench).
North Harrison had one top finisher in the boys’ freshman-sophomore division. In the 155-pound weight class, Dalton Baylor was the best, squatting 345 and benching 240.
The Cougars also had a pair of second-place finishers with 145-pound Zach Taylor (275 squat, 210 bench) and Justin Schiedemantel (410 squat, 240 bench).
Fourth-place honors went to 220-pound Lucas Ables (300 squat, 200 bench) and 135-pound Nate Berryman (230 squat, 130 bench). Devin Troncin at 240 pounds (335 squat, 225 bench) and Aaron Nevil at 200 pounds (300 squat, 225 bench) took fifth-place honors.
The freshman-sophomore team champions were host South Spencer, while the junior-senior championship went to Owensboro (Ky.) Apollo.
