Candidates set for primary

Whether voters in the May 8 Primary choose a Democrat or Republican ballot, they will find some contested races.
The filing period ended Friday at noon. However, both parties have until noon Saturday, June 30, to select a candidate to fill any vacancy on the General Election ballot because no one filed in the Primary.
That day and time is also the deadline for the Libertarian Party to have a convention to nominate candidates or to fill any ballot vacancy following a convention.
Harrison County voters will have some variation of ballots as the council races are determined by their respective districts rather than countywide. Districts 2 and 4 will have a new councilperson with Gary Davis (District 2) and Sam Day (District 4) deciding not to seek another term.
Due to term limits, a new sheriff will be elected. Both parties have two candidates hoping to move on to the November General Election.
