Paul Eugene Eckart, 91, Corydon, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2018.
Born Oct. 8, 1926, in Dogwood, he was the son of the late Smith and Marguerite Bacherms Eckart.
He was an Army veteran during World War II, serving in the Philippines and Korea and attaining the rank of sergeant, retired from The Farmers’ Store (John Deere) after 42 years and a life-long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon, where he served on various committees and he and his friend, the late Pete Hanson, completed many woodworking projects for the church and St. Joseph School.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Eckart.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, the former Winnona Fay Lang; two sons, Sam (Becky) of Corydon and John (Judy) of Greenwood; five grandchildren, Kyle Eckart (Renee), Darcy Eckart, Pam Eckart, Lisa Ruble (Ben) and Sarah Waltz (Ben); and 10 great-grandchildren, Maila, Ava, Mattie, Solomon, Leah, Allison, Logan, Annika, Aubree and Emerson.
Visitation: Wednesday, Jan. 24, from noon to 8 p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 25, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.
Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial, and military rites, at St. Joseph Church Cemetery, both in Corydon.
The family suggests memorial gifts to his church or St. Joseph School in Corydon.
