Dorothy M. Hein

Dorothy Marshall Hein, 103, New Albany, formerly of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, after a brief illness.
Born July 7, 1914, in the Bear Creek community of Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Cora Tash Marshall.
She was a lifelong member of Martinsburg Church of Christ, was a cook at Martinsburg School until it closed in 1966, worked at the Charlestown Ammunition Depot during World War II and the Vietnam War and worked on the family’s beef cattle and Christmas tree farm. She served as parade grand marshal in 2011 at Pekin’s Fourth of July celebration, an event she attended for 103 years.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Gale Wilson Hein, in 1998; a son, Jerry Marshall Hein; and nine siblings, Cordia Mann, Linda Rodman and Claud, Theodore, Goldie, Willie, Clem, Alva and Norma Marshall.
Survivors include three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Friday, Dec. 22, from 2 to 7 p.m. at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra and Saturday, Dec. 23, after 11 a.m. at Martinsburg Church of Christ.
Funeral: Saturday, Dec. 23, at 1 p.m. at the church with burial in Martinsburg Cemetery.
