Samuel T. Swan
Samuel Theodore Swan, 96, Leavenworth, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017.
Born in Bicknell, he was the son of the late David and Leola Pocahontas Collier Swan.
He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps camps in Washington, was a World War II veteran, was a founding member of Hayswood Theatre, was the first president of the first board of Chamber of Commerce in Crawford County, was a member of the Alcoholic Beverage Board in Crawford County, the VFW and the American Legion, was an elder in the Leavenworth Presbyterian Church, was the Leavenworth postmaster, was an accountant and owned his own tax service and was a Democratic chairman for Crawford County.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Mary Margaret Swan; a son, Richard; and a granddaughter, Carly Birkla.
Survivors include five children, Sandra Ellen Swan Drewry, Sheridan Lee Swan, Melissa K Swan, Kelly Sue Swan Birkla and Beth Ann Swan Wilson; 13 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Monday, Aug. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon and Tuesday, Aug. 8, after 11 a.m. at Leavenworth Presbyterian Church.
Funeral: Tuesday, Aug. 8, at 1 p.m. at the church.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the Carly Marie Birkla Scholarship Fund in care of the Community Foundation of Crawford County.
