Harvey named All-state baseball
Fresh off earning the win on the hill at the Class 1A baseball state championship game, Lanesville hurler Cameron Harvey was selected 1A First Team All-state by the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association.
The IHSBCA announced its 2017 All-State Team for all four classes last week.
Harvey earned the nod by posting a 9-2 overall record, making 13 appearances and 12 starts. The right-hander posted an ERA of 1.35, giving up 14 earned runs.
Hitters struggled against Harvey, with the senior striking out 104 batters and walking 19 in 73-2/3 innings.
Harvey has signed to play college baseball at Indiana Wesleyan University, located in Marion.
Players honored as All-state performers who were also taken in the 2017 MLB draft were Hayden Wynja (Heritage Christian, drafted by Atlanta Braves, 30th round), Chandler Ferguson (Lafayette Jefferson, drafted and signed by Cleveland Indians, 25th round), Garrett Schoenle (Fort Wayne Northrop, drafted by Cincinnati Reds, 30th round) and Riley Crean (Bloomington North, drafted by Chicago White Sox, 35th round).
The rest of the members of the 1A first team were Drew Pyle (Hagerstown, pitcher), Max Sims (South Central Union Mills, pitcher), Joe Douglass (Clinton Central, catcher), Derrick Eldridge (Rising Sun, first base), Logan Harmeson (Attica, second base), Jay Hammel (South Newton, third base), Hunter Seegers (South Decatur, shortstop), Timothy Price (Daleville, shortstop), Corbin Maddox (Daleville, outfield), Kasey Henderson (Cowan, outfield), Carson Husman (South Central Union Mills, outfield) and Bryant Housemyer (Rising Sun, outfield).
Other area notables include Lucas McNew (1A honorable mention, Borden), Kendall White (1A honorable mention, Trinity Lutheran), Brandon Merkel (1A honorable mention, Northeast Dubois), Timmy Borden (2A All-state, Providence, shortstop), Reece Davis (2A honorable mention, Providence), Jake Lewis (2A honorable mention, Providence), Travis Burchett (2A honorable mention, Tell City), Tanner Craig (2A honorable mention, Austin), Ryan Robison (4A All-state, New Albany, first base), Jack Ellis (4A honorable mention, Jeffersonville) and Drew Hensley (4A honorable mention, Bedford North Lawrence).
