Corydon Central’s Joey Wiseman completed a top-10 performance last week at the state’s premier amateur golf tournament, the annual Indiana State Amateur Championship, at The Hawthorns Golf & CC in Fishers.
Wiseman stayed near the top of the leaderboard all week in the four-day, 150-person field event.
His four-day score of nine over 297 (71-75-79-72) left him in a tie for eighth place.
Wiseman recently finished his sophomore campaign for the Panthers with an appearance at the state final.
Joey’s older brother, Timothy, a junior-to-be at Ball State University, also competed and finished in a tie for 33rd with a 21-over par total of 309 (84-74-70-81). He tied for the lowest round of the day in the third round.
Floyds Knobs residents Kevin Crone (77-83) and Jack Sparrow (80-81) failed to make the two-day cut.
Michael Markis, a teammate of Wiseman’s at Ball State, won the event in a dual with Avon’s Brett Widner. The two were the only ones to finish under par (five under and two under, respectively).
Timothy Wiseman also qualified for the Indiana Open Championship. A local Indiana Open Qualifier was held at Christmas Lake Golf Course in Santa Claus.
The 18-hole event on June 23 saw Timothy finished third overall, shooting an even par 72 to become one of 15 qualifiers from Santa Claus.
Another qualifier, held at The Legends Golf Club in Franklin, saw Mitchell Frederick qualify with a 4-over par 76. The Corydon resident and junior-to-be at Oakland City University finished tied for 20th place.
The Indiana Open Championship will be held July 10 through 13 at Brick Boilermaker Golf Complex’s Ackerman-Allen Course in West Lafayette.
The four-day, 72-hole event will have a cut after two rounds of play.
