Evelyn G. Holobek
Evelyn Grace Holobek 76, Hico, W.Va., died Friday, June 24, 2017, at Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg, W.Va., following a battle with Parkinson’s disease and cancer.
Born March 18, 1941, in Clifty, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Abraham L. and Edith Kesler Carte.
Evelyn loved the Lord and accepted Him as her Savior at Kesler Memorial Presbyterian Church on Nov. 25, 1951. She attended elementary school at Clifty and completed high school and two years of college in Indianapolis. Her occupation was marketing director for The Corydon Democrat, and she served as Crusade chairperson for the American Cancer Society in Williamsport Township area of Indiana in 1971. She retired and moved back to West Virginia to care for her mother, who passed in 2006. She was active in the BPW Club, real estate rentals and the Red Hat Society.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Scott Holobek, in 1986, and a granddaughter, Danielle Nicole Smigel, in 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Vicki Lynn Smigel and grandchildren, Michael Smigel and twins Nicholas and Alexis Smigel, all of Jeffersonville; two sisters, Joanna Skaggs (Jon) of Lewisburg, W.Va., and Sue Eckenrode of Loretto, Pa.; four brothers, James of Denham Springs, La., Mitch of Hico, Timothy of northern Virginia and James McCoy of Asbury, W.Va.; an aunt, Josephine Norman of League City, Texas; an uncle, George Kesler of McMinnville, Tenn., and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation: Tuesday, June 27, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Ansted, W.Va.
Funeral: Tuesday, June 27, at 2 p.m. at the chapel with burial in Kesler Memorial Cemetery at Hico.
Officiants: The Revs. Freddie Parkins and Randy Skaggs.
Pallbearers: Family members.
