Mary M. Swan
Mary Margaret Swan, 92, Leavenworth, died peacefully surrounded by her loving daughters and husband of 71 years.
Born in Bicknell, the daughter of Anna Cole Williams, she was raised by her mother and stepfather, George Turner.
She was a real estate agent in Southern Indiana during the 1970s and 1980s, establishing Swan Realty with her husband, Sam; was an artist and poet; was a founding member of Hayswood Theatre in Corydon; bought and sold antiques and opened her own store, The Cabbage Patch; and was a life-long member of Leavenworth Presbyterian Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard; a granddaughter, Carly Marie Birkla; five sisters, Edna Atkins, Rosie Parr, Georgie Turner, Ellen Roberson and Francis Kane; and a brother, David Adamson.
Survivors include her husband, Sam Swan; her five daughters, Sandra Drewry of Eaton, Ohio, Sheri Swan of Terre Haute, Melissa Swan of Louisville, Kelly Birkla of Leavenworth and Beth Swan Wilson of Evansville; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Tuesday, March 7, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon and Wednesday, March 8, after noon at Leavenworth Presbyterian Church.
Memorial service: Wednesday, March 8, at 1 p.m. at the church.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the Carly Marie Birkla Scholarship Fund in care of the Community Foundation of Crawford County.
