Pairings set for boys’ basketball tourney

Three hundred ninety-nine teams were drawn Sunday and placed into brackets for the 107th annual Indiana High School Athletic Association’s Boys’ Basketball State Tournament presented by the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever.
Sectional games are scheduled to begin Tuesday and continue through Saturday, March 4, with the regional round slated for March 11 and semi-states on March 18. The four state championship games that make up the state finals will be played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Saturday, March 25.
North Harrison will take on No. 1 Brownstown Central in the opening game of Class 3A Sectional 30 at Salem on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Cougars lost to Brownstown Central, 72-47, on Dec. 16.
Corydon Central gets a quick rematch with Silver Creek, a team they lost to 56-39 this past Friday night. The two Mid-Southern Conference teams meet in the opening round of Sectional 30 at 7:30 p.m. on March 1.
Class 1A Sectional 62 will be played at New Washington. Lanesville and South Central were beneficiaries of the bye and will open the postseason on Friday, March 3. Lanesville awaits the New Washington vs. Rock Creek Academy winner for a 6 p.m. semi-final tip. South Central, meanwhile, follows at 7:30 versus either Christian Academy of Indiana or Shawe Memorial.
Crawford County, hosting the Class 2A Sectional 46, received a bye and, on Friday, March 3, will face the winner of the Eastern (Pekin) vs. Clarksville contest. The Wolfpack defeated Eastern, 49-41, on Dec. 9 but lost at Clarksville, 48-39, on Dec. 14.
Floyd Central also received a bye and, on Friday, March 1, will face the winner of the Jeffersonville vs. Seymour contest in the Class 4A Sectional 15 at Seymour. No. 11 Floyd Central, having won 14 consecutive games, defeated Jeffersonville, 55-49, on Jan. 13 and Seymour, 39-27, on Jan. 27. Both games were on the road.
The Seymour Sectional also includes last year’s Class 4A champion No. 3 New Albany. The Bulldogs will play Jennings County in the second game on Tuesday.
Among the 399 teams in the tournament, 100 are in Class 4A, 101 in Class 3A, 100 in Class 2A and 98 in Class 1A.
Sectional tickets cost $6 per session or $10 for all sessions.
