James J. Beaty Jr.

James Joseph (Joe) Beaty Jr., 83, Palmyra, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville.
Born Jan. 21, 1934, in Paoli, he was the son of the late James Joseph Sr. and Mary Irene True Beaty.
He graduated from Paoli High School in 1952. Influenced by FFA, he was a farmer, raising corn, hay, cattle and hogs, was a school bus driver, sold feed supplies and hauled grain, was a Santa helper for many years, was a charter member of the Palmyra Volunteer Fire Dept. and worked with 4-H in the 1970s.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth (Libby) Eddy and Mary Jane Jacobson, and a brother, William (Bill) Beaty.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, the former Mary Etta Curtis; two children, James Joseph (Jim) Beaty III (Janet) of West Lafayette and Nancy Beaty Hammack (Tom) of Georgetown; four grandchildren, LCMR James R. Beaty of Japan, Jody Beaty and Joseph Beaty, both of Colorado, and Sarah Hammack of Georgetown; and a sister, Frances Ehrmantraut of Cincinnati.
Visitation: Thursday, Feb. 23, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 24, after 11 a.m. at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra.
Funeral: Friday, Feb. 24, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with burial in Paoli Community Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the North Harrison High School FFA.
