Lady Panthers place fifth in holiday tourney

The Corydon Central Lady Panthers won two of three games to finish fifth in last week’s holiday tournament at Vincennes Lincoln.
The Lady Panthers improved to 9-8 on the season, posting a season-high in points with a 77-68 win over Evansville Harrison in the fifth-place game on Friday.
The offensive surge included a 48-point second half in which the Lady Panthers scored 24 points in the third and fourth quarters each.
Gracie Paden scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Cami Schmitt added 19 points and nine rebounds to pace Corydon Central.
Alyssa Edwards and Megan Rowlett also reached double figures with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
The Lady Panthers shot 45 percent from the field and made 22 of 29 free throws (75 percent) in the win.
Corydon Central fell to the consolation bracket with a 60-54 loss to Northview in the opening game on Thursday.
Schmitt scored 23 points to lead the Lady Panthers, and Edwards added 12.
The Lady Panthers bounced back in their opening game on Friday with a 59-51 win over Sullivan.
Schmitt led the way again with 21 points, seven rebounds and seven steals. Paden scored 15 points, and Edwards added 13.
The Lady Panthers will return to action Thursday, Jan. 5, at home against Mid-Southern Conference-foe Eastern (Pekin).
