Cougars finish second in Holiday Classic

The North Harrison boys’ basketball team finished second Thursday in the three-team, round-robin Greensburg Holiday Classic.
Host Greensburg won the tournament, going 2-0, while the Cougars finished 1-1. Milan, the third team in the tourney, lost both of its games.
Facing the host school, the Cougars played a tight game that came down to the wire. Entering the fourth quarter trailing 35-30, the Cougars’ defense stepped up and held the Pirates to six points but ended regulation tied 41-41.
The overtime period was tightly contested; however, the Cougars were unable to overcome late turnovers and foul trouble. Flock, Harley and Book all fouled out of the contest, and the Cougars fell 52-49.
Wetzel had a game-high 13 points for the Cougars.
In their second match-up, the Cougars led the Indians for most of the game, despite struggling to hold on to the ball and make free throws. North Harrison managed to shoot 61 percent (17 of 28) from the line and turned the ball over 21 times.
Aside from turnovers, the Cougars played great offense, logging 12 assists on 16 made field goals, and defense, surrendering only 19 points through the first three quarters. They took a 14-point lead, 33-19, into the fourth quarter and survived a late push by the Indians to win 52-42. Wetzel again led North Harrison, this time with 12 points.
Greensburg went on to win the tournament following its 52-23 victory over Milan later that day.
