Catheryn Lois Mathes, 99, Corydon, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, at Kindred Transitional Care & Rehabilitation Center ‘ Harrison in Corydon.
Born June 20, 1917, in Corydon, she was the daughter of the late John O. and Lulia Tindall Reas.
She had worked as a seamstress at the old M. Fine Shirt Factory in New Albany, was a lifelong member of Heidelberg United Methodist Church near Corydon and a member of the Heidelberg quilters at the church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Mathes; a son, Donald Mathes; three daughters, Betty Ripperdan, Nancy Snyder and Mary Lou Emily; and two grandsons, Curtis Ripperdan and Carey Mathes.
Survivors include a son, Larry W. Mathes (Betty) of Corydon; nine grandchildren, Michael Mathes (Denise), Michele Whitehouse, Melody Coleman (Lyle), Mark Mathes, Teresa Carrico (Gerard), Cynthia Coffman (Arlis), Heather Davis (Bob), Shane Snyder (Sarah) and Kyle Emily (Andrea); 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Tuesday, Dec. 20, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 21, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Wednesday, Dec. 21, at 11 a.m. at Heidelberg United Methodist Church southwest of Corydon with burial in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers: Michael, Mark and Tyler Mathes, Shane Snyder and Brad and Greg Reas.
Honorary pallbearers: Kyle Emily, Heather Davis, Dennis and Joey Reas and Donald Mathes.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Cancer Society.
