Lady Rebels knock out Patriots in OT

South Central let a double-digit lead slip away in regulation at Heritage Hills on Saturday afternoon but pulled out an overtime win.
The Lady Rebels, backed by 31 points from Lexie Knear, defeated the Lady Patriots 72-69.
Rolling up 22 points in the first quarter, South Central was able to build a 37-30 half-time lead. However, Heritage Hills figured out a way to rally around post player Abby Wahl, who closed with a game-high 35 points to force overtime when both teams were tied at 62 after 32 minutes.
‘We had talked about keeping Wahl off the boards and did a decent job of that,’ South Central coach Randall Schoen said. ‘We just let her score. But, all joking aside, she is a very nice player.’
South Central was aided by the big afternoon from Knear. The guard knocked down three long balls while doing plenty of damage at the charity stripe. She went 18 of 19 at the line.
Jordan Renn made five 3-pointers leading to 17 points. Ally Davis contributed 16, while Miranda Kiper scored seven.
‘It was nice to see Jordan have a break-out game; hopefully, she can continue with it,’ Schoen said. ‘Lexie had a great game, and Ally is looking every game like her old self. Miranda was very solid in the post.’
South Central improved to 2-1 with a trip to Charlestown on the docket for Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
