Roy E. Purlee

Roy Edward Purlee, 78, Pekin, died Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, at his home.
Born March 25, 1938, in Palmyra, he was the son of the late Cecil Lucas and Fern Rebecca Libka Purlee.
He attended Pierce Elementary School, graduated from Pekin High School in 1957, served in the National Guard and was a long-time member of Big Spring Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Purlee.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, the former Sharon R. McMahel; two sons, David and Stephen Purlee, both of Salem; two daughters, Martha Moore and Leah Starrett, both of Pekin; a sister, Lena Shields of Salem; and 12 grandchildren.
Visitation: Tuesday, Sept. 6, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra and Wednesday, Sept. 7, after 9 a.m. at Big Spring Church of Christ in Pekin.
Funeral: Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m. at the church in the Big Spring Church of Christ Cemetery.
