Samuel H. Cotner, 86, Bloomington, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, at Golden Living Center in Bloomington.
Born April 10, 1930, in Corydon, he was the son of the late Raymond Cotner and Rosella Sonner Cotner.
He graduated from New Amsterdam High School in 1947, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Indiana University in 1956 and served in the Army from 1949 to 1953. He retired as the deputy director of Personnel at the Naval Weapons Support Center in Crane after 30 years, was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, played and coached men’s softball for 30 years and was inducted into the Bloomington Softball Hall of Fame.
He married Marlene Meidel in 1952 and raised five children, Stephen Cotner (Karen) of Fishers, Patrick and John Cotner (Paula), both of Bloomington, Rebecca Williams (Michael) of Indianapolis and the late Karen Cotner. He had seven grandchildren, Jennifer Owens (Ellis) and Matthew Cotner, both of Fishers, Bart Cotner (Ashley) of Bloomington, Hannah Webster (Jason) of Farmersburg and Allison Cotner, Mandi Williams and Megan Ryle (Frankie), all of Indianapolis, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Allen Funeral Home & Crematory in Bloomington.
Funeral: Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
