Calvin Howard (Cal) Simpson, 71, Deltona, Fla., formerly of Southern Indiana and New Smyrna Beach, Fla., died Monday, Aug. 1, 2016, at his home of natural causes.
Born Nov. 18, 1944, in Brisbane, Australia, he was the son of the late Virgil Calvin Simpson and Eunice Eva Klass Simpson.
He served in the Army in Vietnam, was awarded the Purple Heart, attended the University of Louisville Speed School for engineering and, for many years, was an engineer at International Harvester. He also was a farmer and later owned and operated a trucking business and was a Republican.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Trevor Simpson.
Survivors include four children, Melissa Simpson-Cox (Jamie Cox), Calvin Howard Simpson Jr. (Beth Simpson), Christina Simpson and Melissa Simpson-Mays (Don Mays); two brothers, Dean Simpson (Kathy Simpson) and Clint Simpson; a sister, Tana Simpson-Miller (Teri Miller); eight grandchildren, Jamee, Matthew (Katie) and Taylor Cox, Crandell, Camren, Candace and Tiara Simpson and Hartlyn LaPlant; and a great-grandchild, Keaton Williams.
Visitation: Saturday, Aug. 6, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 7, after 10 a.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Sunday, Aug. 7, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery in Elizabeth.
Officiant: The Rev. Jim Simpson.
Pallbearers: Jamie and Matthew Cox, Crandell, Camren and Chad Simpson and Travis Miller.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Elizabeth Presbyterian Church of the Covenant.
