Eels of Clay City await Eagles

Lanesville is set to make the baseball program’s second appearance at semi-state; the first was in 1975.
The Eagles (14-11) are scheduled to face Clay City (14-8) at Ruxer Field in the Class 1A Jasper Semi-state at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Lanesville will be the designated home team.
Clay City’s path to the semi-state once capturing the White River Valley Sectional included regional wins over Indianapolis Lutheran (4-1) and Jac-Cen-Del (10-6).
If both teams go with No. 1 pitchers, the match-up figures to be a pitcher’s duel. The Eels’ top arm is 6-foot-2 lefty Hunter Wolfe, who carries a 7-2 record and a 1.08 ERA. The Purdue University commit has struck out 130 batters and walked 22 in 65 innings.
Lanesville will likely oppose Wolfe with righty Brenden Bube. The junior has a 1.80 ERA and has fanned 88 batters in 58-1/3 innings of work.
Offensively, Clay City features three players hitting above .400: Austin Stevenson (.463, five doubles), Wolfe (.421, three home runs, 17 RBIs) and Noah Decker (.413).
Following the Lanesville vs. Clay City game, the Class 3A battle between Northview versus Evansville Memorial takes place at approximately 3 p.m.
The northern semi-state match-up pits 1A No. 5 Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian (19-5) against Daleville (19-9) to be played at Plymouth.
Admission to semi-state is $6 per person.
Ruxer Field in Jasper is located on West 10th Street off U.S. 231.
