Waynescott clears 6-3 at conference

Less than 40 points separated the second- through seventh-place teams at the conclusion of the Mid-Southern Conference boys’ track and field meet Friday.
The problem for those six schools was each was well behind winner Silver Creek, which amassed 172 points, including sweeping every relay race.
One event the Dragons didn’t win came at the high jump on the campus of Corydon Central. North Harrison’s Ben Waynescott out-jumped the field of 14 athletes. Two jumpers ‘ Eastern’s (Pekin) Brandon Eberle and Waynescott ‘ cleared 6 feet. Once over 6 feet, only Waynescott continued to clear heights, including his meet-winning height of 6-3.
As a team, North Harrison managed 31 points to place eighth. Rival and host Corydon Central placed one spot ahead of the Cougars, in seventh, with 48 points.
Corydon Central’s Logan Lee, along with Waynescott, was among the contenders in the 400-meter dash. Chasing Silver Creek’s Dalton Collins, Lee finished second with a time of 53.37 seconds. Waynescott (53.44) was third.
Behind Silver Creek’s domination in relays, Corydon Central picked up a third-place finish (1,600 relay) and a pair of fourths (400 and 3,200 relays).
Individually, Corydon Central’s Lauren Blackburn was sixth in the 800 (2:13.05) while teammate Cody Schneck took the same spot in the long jump (18-5.25).
