Edna K. Schmidt
Edna K. Schmidt, 86, New Salisbury, died Thursday, May 12, 2016, at her home.
Born July 3, 1929, in Detroit, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Theresa Mahoney Gates.
She and her husband, John C. (Callie) Schmidt, opened a family business, with other family members, Schmidt Cabinet Co. Inc. In the early ’70s, they built the New Salisbury Golf Course, which was open 44 years. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy and Clarence Gates.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, John C. (Callie) Schmidt; a daughter, Jonni Schmidt of New Salisbury; a son, Jeff Schmidt (Sandy) of New Salisbury; four grandchildren, Jennifer Vermillion of Louisville, Tony Beavers (Allison) of New Salisbury and Ryan and Ross Schmidt, both of New Albany; a great-grandson, Gavin Vermillion of Louisville; a sister, Nadine Gates Crecelius (Marvin) of Okeechobee, Fla.; a brother, Jack Gates (Melva) of Dallas; multiple cousins, nieces and nephews; and her caregivers, Wanda Patton, Linda Newburn, Julia Bosler, Jennifer Gibson, Peggy McDaniels, Joyce Shutters, Janet Alton, Janie Whittaker and Susan Graves
Arrangements: A procession will leave Monday, May 16, at 3 p.m. from Swarens Funeral Home in Ramsey and go to Marengo Cemetery for a graveside service. A Celebration of Life and dinner will follow at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Frenchtown. All family and friends are invited to attend both and to share their memories at the dinner.
