Twelve teams surrounded the track and field complex at North Harrison High School Friday night, waiting for first, second and third call for respective events.
A few weeks away from conference meets and the approaching postseason tournament, area teams took part in the North Harrison Invitational to see where many stood with rivals.
Silver Creek emerged as the team champions on the boys’ and girls’ side, scoring 140-1/2 and 159-1/2 points, respectively. On their tails in regard to the boys’ competition was Crawford County with 93-1/2 points in second place while Corydon Central (102) was runner-up among girls’ team scores.
North Harrison boasted the strength of the girls’ side of the Mid-Southern Conference, taking third with 97-1/2 points. Crawford County (35) was seventh, while Lanesville (15) was ninth.
Rounding out the local boys’ teams, Lanesville (60) placed fifth while Corydon Central (58-1/2) and North Harrison (36-1/2) were sixth and seventh, respectively.
Crawford County’s Zach Faith went on to be named the boys’ Top Performer at the meet. The girls’ honor went to Natalie Ruedinger of Borden.
Corydon Central’s girls ended the meet in grand style, rolling in the 1,600-meter relay. They recorded a time of 4:31.49, better than four seconds faster than runner-up Borden. North Harrison (4:39.79) placed third.
The win kicked off a total of four for the girls’ program in black and gold. In field events, Ashley Oliver, a state-qualifier a year ago, continued her dominating season thus far. Her distances in the shot put and discus were more than enough to claim victory. In the shot, Oliver had a distance of 37 feet, 10 inches, then, in the discus, she threw her best at 117-9-1/2.
North Harrison’s Lilly Hatton took third in the discus (88-7-1/2) and fourth in the shot (31-0). Fellow Lady Cats discus participant Victoria Perez took second in the discus with a throw of 95-3.
