Hentrup, Rebels second at Rising Sun
The South Central boys’ golf team joined a field of 10 teams at the Rising Sun Invitational Saturday, battling cold temperatures in the 30s and 40s throughout their rounds.
At times, there was snow falling on the par-71 course situated near the Ohio River, according to South Central coach Steve Temple.
Playing through the conditions, the Rebels fared well, shooting a 351 to place second. The top team was Trinity Lutheran, which shot 332.
Temple said during play he wasn’t sure his team would reach the top five, but, when scores started to come in, the Rebels were near the top.
Key to the low score was the play of Henry Hentrup. Not only did the senior card seven pars, he also had four birdies. Hentrup went on to finish with a 5-over par 76, taking the runner-up spot.
On his scorecard, Hentrup birdied three par 4s (10, 15 and 18) along with the par 3 fourth hole.
South Central’s Brayden Stopinski had a solid front-nine score of 39, including one birdie. He closed with an 86.
From the No. 3 slot, Sutton Day carded the tournament’s lone eagle on No. 5. Day also put in a birdie on No. 17 to close with a 93.
Bryce Lewis and Cody Johnson also participated for the Rebels, each shooting 96s.
Medalist honors went to Franklin Central’s Nate Mynatt, who played the back nine even par, setting up a 2-over par 73 round.
