Cort (Jerome) Rogers, 95, Milltown, died Thursday, March 17, 2016, at Kindred Transitional Care & Rehabilitation Center ‘ Harrison in Corydon.
Born March 6, 1921, south of Milltown, he was the son of the late Cort E. Rogers and Vivian Goldman Rogers.
Jerome was a student-athlete (cross country and track) at Indiana University in 1941, served as a Navy pilot in the South Pacific and then as executive officer of a Utility Squadron stationed in San Pedro, Calif. After the war, he concluded his education at the University of Southern California, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was employed by the Southern California Gas Co. until 1977, when he took early retirement to return to the family property in Crawford County, and was a self-taught carpenter.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, the former Georgia Patricia (Pat) Boylan, in December 2015.
Survivors include a son, Cort A. Rogers; three daughters, Kathy Rogers of Milltown and Georgia Riojas (Don) and Victoria Thomas (Steve), both of California; a brother, Charles Rogers of Rockwell, N.C.; a sister, Golda Nelson of Sebastian, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
Visitation: Wednesday, March 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, March 31, 2016, after 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Milltown.
Funeral: Thursday, March 31, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with interment in Milltown Cemetery.
Officiant: Brother Carl Totten.
