Market gets sign approval; ordinances discussed
A downtown merchant who recently opened a new market was approved for window signage during the Corydon Planning & Zoning Commission’s meeting March 7.
Gene Mosley, who opened Indian Creek Market at 109 E. Chestnut St., received the OK for identical signs in the market’s windows, one on each side of the door.
The commission also had a public hearing for its cell tower ordinance.
Chris Byrd, the board’s legal counsel, said the proposed ordinance is based on his reading of about a dozen similar ordinances.
‘It’s a good start,’ board chair Glenn Thienel said.
There was no one in the audience to speak during the hearing.
Les Rhoads made a motion, seconded by Eva Bates North, to send the ordinance to the Corydon Town Council with a favorable recommendation. The motion passed 6-0 (board member Jennifer Timberlake was absent).
A public hearing will be set for a proposed grease trap ordinance drafted by Byrd following a request by Danny Huff, the town’s maintenance supervisor, that the town have an ordinance.
Other ordinances the board will consider pertain to open burning, especially with regard to fire pits, and skateboarding.
A man who was ordered to clean up his property along Ridley Street asked the board via Carolyn Hofelich, executive secretary for the commission, if what he had done was enough to meet the board’s requirement.
‘Compared to what it looked like before, he’s done a fabulous job,’ board member John D. Kintner said. ‘It still needs more.’
Thienel agreed that ‘it’s still a mess.’
North commented that there are two other properties in the town that look similar.
‘So what do you do?’ she asked.
The man, who was not identified, has health issues and told Hofelich he needs to have surgery.
‘It’s bad,’ board member Judy Kennedy said of the property. ‘I feel for people with health issues.’
Thienel, with consensus from the board, directed Hofelich to contact the property owner to tell him he needs to ‘completely clean it up’; if he needs more time due to his health, the board would allow that.
